Guide: Import

Import
Import tasks from Excel

You can import lists and tasks from an Excel file (.xlsx). Click + in the top bar, choose "Import from Excel" and then "Choose Excel file".

Before anything is saved you see a preview: how many tasks and lists will be created and the first rows. If the file has errors, they are listed with row number and reason, and nothing is imported until you fix the file and choose it again. Nothing is created until you click "Import". If you click "Cancel", nothing happens.

Everything goes into a new main list named "Imported" followed by today's date, which opens right away. Nothing you already have is overwritten. Contexts and tags you don't have yet are created.

The template

Download the Excel template, or use the "Download Excel template" link in the import dialog. The template has one row per task or list and a few example rows. The "Columns" sheet explains each column. Only the first sheet is imported. The Id and Parent id columns decide which list a task goes into. Dates are written YYYY-MM-DD, and choices such as Completed and Important as Yes or No.

The file can be at most 5 MB and have at most 5,000 rows.

A list you have exported to Excel has the same columns as the template. You can edit it and import it again.
